Moving Words text

Organizing principles of the Moving Words Workshop:

“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a

faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant

and has forgotten the gift.”    -- Albert Einstein

Upcoming Workshops in Sonoma County

The next series of three workshops is planned for August, 2009 at Tenchi Aikido Dojo outside of Sebastopol.

The workshops rely on free movement to build a creative space in which useful personal material can arise, be expressed, appreciated, and 'digested.' Along with movement we will use other tools: voice, writing, and drawing. What I might do to describe the process wouldn't help very much in your understanding it beforehand. Re-read the "Organizing Principles" above and have faith that together, these expeiences can be brought within reach.

Give me a call if you'd like to discuss further before signing up.

Prior registration is preferred. Last minute attendees will be accomodated if possible. Call or write with your questions: 707-486-1512 or

Facilitated by Bob Engel. Bob is a local actor and writer. He is cuurently enrolled in Meridian University's Masters in Counseling Psycholgy program. He has appeared with the Independent Eye theater group in its Genesis Ensemble and currently works with Independent Eye as part of the Mythic Kitchen group. – In 2006 he appeared in the Light Touch Theater production of "Skeleton Woman" at Spreckles Center for the Performing Arts. His poem “Autumn Pilgrimage” travelled around on Sonoma County buses as one of the winners of the Poetry in Motion contest. Those words, “poetry in motion,” were one of the seeds of this workshop.

Come in clothing that is comfortable to move in. Bring a journal or notebook to write in.

Bob was one of those pudgy kids who liked books better than sports. He discovered his body on stage and has gone on to be a student and/or teacher of mime, improvisational theater, the Gurdjieff Movements, the Mevlevi sema, and has earned a black belt in aikido. In constructing the Moving Words workshop he acknowledges a debt to Olivia Corson’s beautifully wise Body Tales® technique.
